Abiding Fruit Text: John 15:1-5 [165]

Note

* Every farmer that plants a seed has an expectation; he waters it, protects it and waits patiently because he expects a harvest. In the same way, God has expectations for every family on this earth. God didn’t just bring us so that we can share the same roof or share food as families.

* God’s purpose for our family is to bear fruit, and our fruit should remain.

* The family is another of God’s instruments for raising people. The devil keeps fighting family with all manner of difficulties.

* The children in the families watch: they’re watching what the parents do.

* If we allow our families to bear fruits that will remain, we will surely see God help us through challenges.

* Just like the palm tree, the storm will come, the rain will come, but it will not fall. If we abide in the vineyard, we will not fall.

* Physical fruit: it is just a plant we see and admire.

* Spiritual fruit: the visible evidence of what is happening inside you. It is the visible evidence of what men can see.

* The Bible says, “By their fruits we shall know them.” The fruit is what shows when we’re under pressure. As a man, when your wife annoys you, how do you react, and vice versa?

* Our fruit will show in our character the way we respond to our fellow church members and people outside church.

* Gal 5:22-23…you don’t pretend to have fruit when it’s not there. What you don’t have you can’t give.

What is abiding fruit?

  1. It is lasting evidence in Christ.
  2. It is a life whose character obedience is light unto others
  3. It is a life that continuously reflects Christ.

Why we should be abiding fruit

  1. The fruit that can stand the challenge of life. The fruit can stand the test of time; in difficulty you still profess Christ.
  2. The fruit that draws people to Christ because of you.

How to abide

  1. Abide in the word of God; you must learn to dwell in God’s word. Josh 1:8…is the word of God richly dwelling in you? It is the word of God that helps you to counter situations.
  2. We abide through prayer; the same way the farmers use instruments to cultivate in his farm, we use prayer to abide: we must learn to abide through prayer.
  3. Soul-winning. John 15:8…your fruit is meant to nourish people. The fruit is life. Soul winning is God’s heartbeat.

Benefit of abiding fruit

  1. You’ll become more fruitful: you’re fruitful in season and out of season.
  2. You have answers to prayer. Isaiah 65:25.
  3. Abiding fruit becomes a legacy: it is not just for you, but generations after you will benefit from your fruits.

The Family as a Garden

[  ] The garden does not become fruitful overnight. Someone must cultivate and water it. What have you been planting? If Jesus comes will he find peace in your vineyard?

[163]

Utterances

* I see the fruit of Jesus abiding in us.

* I see God granting us that grace to abide

Word of knowledge

  • I always return to see if every fruit I plant has borne seeds.

God’s servant

* God expects an honorable seed. Everything is a seed. Unfortunately, this earth has a way of producing evil fruit.

* What goes around, comes around.

* Seed takes patience to produce fruit. The whole earth is a seed.
